GLTA Destination of the Month: Tel Aviv
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Tel Aviv is one of the most attractive destinations for GLBT tourists, with its wonderful sunny weather and beautiful sandy beaches, its interesting architecture and culture, its world-class Mediterranean cuisine, and most importantly - its vibrant night life. Metro Tel Aviv itself is not very large (the heart of the metropolis is about 8 square km), but is very diverse, and provides a rich experience to suit every taste and mood. You might begin your day with a dip in the sea, or a stroll along the lovely promenade, admiring the view. Later, you might enjoy one the hundreds of fine cafés and bistros. In the afternoon you may find yourself touring the picturesque alleys of ancient Jaffa, or at an art museum, or maybe at a fashionable shopping mall, at an outdoor market, in the "old" city, or enjoying on of the free English-language tours offered by the City. At night you may attend the opera, ballet, a classical or rock concert, or have a drink at a noisy bar, packed with people having a good time. After midnight you will want to check out one of the many clubs and discothèques. The beauty of it is that all of these events take place in easy walking distance or just a short cab or bus ride away. Tel Aviv's gay scene is very active, and in fact, Tel Aviv has rightfully become one of the gay capitals of the world. Israel is now one of the world's most progressive countries in terms of equality for the GLBT community. We enjoy growing visibility and acceptance, and the friendly vibes can be felt throughout the city. GLBT folks can feel quite comfortable holding hands or kissing on the streets. Tel Aviv has no specific "gay" quarter; the GLBT scene is scattered all over town. This is not surprising, since so many young gay Israelis migrate to Tel Aviv from all over the country. Tel Aviv has the trendiest gay night clubs, a variety of gay cocktail bars and cafés, shady cruising parks and steamy saunas. Each June, Tel Aviv hosts an entire Pride Festival, featuring a colorful and joyous Pride Parade down the city's main streets. There are always many other events such as gay studies lectures, art exhibitions, gay movie festivals, beach sport contests, and of course - wild parties. Tel Aviv offers all the advantages for the gay traveler: sea and sun, culture and fun, beautiful people, parties that last till dawn. All this and more is waiting for you here, in Tel Aviv. For a great vacation, you've found the right place. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
